Senior Edit Assistant

You will be working closely with other members of the Edit Assistants Team to help maintain technical requirements and assist in the delivery of assets to schedules while maintaining a smooth communication with the Production Team.

You will work alongside the Head of Technical / Editor to help lead, inspire and train the Edit Assistant team where required.

You will train alongside the Online Team to gain a proficiency in Online Edits.

You will also be encouraged to further develop your programming skills to propose automated processes benefitting both the security and efficiency of our Department.

  • Troubleshooting of technical difficulties (software and hardware).
  • Addressing or reporting where support or maintenance are required.
  • Daily upkeep of AVID, Resolve, Premiere, Nexis, data i/o and storage systems.
  • Maintain high-level of communication between Editors, Production, Online, Assistants and other internal teams, across our sites in London.
  • QC of media both incoming and outgoing, delivery of files to broadcasters, clearing bodies, delivery partners as well as client approval files, audio, online and grade preparations.
  • Ensure all freelancers, new starters and current staff work according to the agreed technical setup for projects and proactively address if not.
  • Perform material ingest, sequence prepping, rendering, conforms, archiving, exports, mixdowns, source lists, AAF (EDL OMFI), onlines.
  • Provide guidance and organise local training to staff, assistants and freelancers on our bespoke workflows.
  • Assist the Head of Technical / Editor in managing the Edit Assist team on a day to day basis, communicating issues as much as progress.
  • Assist the Edit Assistants in their training and manage their rotas and daily workload.
  • Maintain and improve current knowledge of relevant technology and practices to provide support to the wider business.
  • Develop, test and deploy new automated processes to improve our security and efficacy where needed alongside the Head of Technical / Editor.
  • Troubleshooting of edit software and storage.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of new equipment.
  • Develop the necessary skills to deliver Online Edits on schedule with the support of the Online Editor and the Head of Technical / Editor.
  • Minimum of 2-years’ experience working in a machine room environment with a knowledge of Avid Nexis, Symphony, frame rates, timecode, aspect ratios, resolutions, video scanning, colour spaces and codecs.
  • Experienced with Avid Media Composer and a familiarity with the basic video effects and audio plug-ins.
  • Ability to operate Avid Symphony and manage finishing process.
  • Working knowledge of cloud-based editing systems a bonus.
  • Strong working knowledge of frame rates, timecode, aspect ratios, resolutions, video scanning and colour spaces.
  • Strong working knowledge with audio bit depth, sample rate, codecs, common track layouts and audio formats, digital video codecs, bit rates, conversion tools and colour spaces.
  • Programming skills a bonus for existing scripts.
  • Ability to lead and work well as part of a team and create strong working relationships.
  • Strong organisation skills along with strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management and the ability to manage several projects simultaneously and keep a level head under pressure.
