Online Edit Assistant

In this role, you will work closely with the Edit Assistant, Production, and Edit Teams across our offices in ANZ, UK, US, and The Netherlands, to technically assist with our client’s material, hit our swift delivery schedules, initiate and upkeep workflows, and be instrumental in the offline/online workflow process.  You will be primarily responsible for supporting the Online team.

Please note, that this role is based on-site in our Melbourne office.

 

KEY TASKS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES​
  • Assist the Online department with finishing prep exports, reracks, conforms, tracklays, and deliverable creation and QC.
  • Prioritisation of jobs moving into online, and communication of issues or clashes as well as progress with the Production team
  • Where necessary, deliver Online Edits on schedule with the support of the Online Editor
  • Creation of thorough and error-free Quality Control of media with emphasis on online finishing preps and outgoing deliverable files from the Online team.
  • Daily upkeep of AVID, Resolve, Premiere, Nexis, data i/o and storage systems.  
  • Working with the wider Edit Assistant team to handle media in a variety of formats: backing up rushes, transcoding proxies, converting masters, ingesting media, syncing interviews with audio, syncing multicam, sorting sequences, tracklaying, laying down stems, conforming, creating AAFs and exports files.
  • Archiving completed projects on Avid and on our shared server system
  • Maintain high-level communication between Editors, Production, Online, Assistants and other internal teams, across our sites in Melbourne, London, New York, LA and Amsterdam.
  • Support the development, review and maintenance of appropriate documentation and guidelines on local knowledge for Creatives and freelance staff
  • Assist junior Edit Assistants in their training, especially in the online workflow space
  • Maintain and improve current knowledge of relevant technology and practices to provide support to the wider business.
  • Develop, test and deploy new automated processes to improve our security and efficacy where needed
  • Troubleshooting of edit software and storage, plus technical difficulties across the team (both software and hardware). 
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of new equipment, and addressing or reporting where support or maintenance are required.
  • Fully understand and adhere to all security protocols, and ensure the rest of the team and company workflows are also working to these guidelines
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS​
  • Minimum of 2-years’ experience working in a MCR /machine room environment with a thorough knowledge of Avid MediaCompser and Avid Nexis.  Avid Symphony knowledge is a bonus.
  • Excellent working knowledge of online/offline workflows, conforms, frame rates and conversion workflows, aspect ratios, resolutions, video scanning, colour spaces and codecs.  High proficiency with complex HD and UHD workflows (codecs, rates, ratios, channels)
  • Excellent working knowledge with audio bit depth, sample rate, codecs, common track layouts and audio formats, digital video codecs, bit rates, conversion tools and colour spaces.
  • Good grasp of colour space, transparency and LUTs
  • Awareness of HDR current practices
  • Command of shoot to finish media management (back-up, ingest, transcode, conform, delivery and archive)
  • Insight of all forms of localising and versioning (subtitles, gfx replacement, dubbing, re-racking)
  • Track record of supporting Offline and Online edits
  • Working experience in broadcast / theatrical / streaming deliveries 
  • Vision to propose, refine and upkeep development (technical and personal)
  • The ability to manage deadlines and priorities 
  • Professional level written and spoken English (other languages a plus)
